Q: Characteristics and applications of crossed roller bearings.

 

A: The rolling elements of crossed roller bearings are cylindrical rollers or tapered rollers, which are arranged vertically at 90° to each other in a V-shaped raceway. The rollers are separated by retainers or isolation blocks. This structure enables each set of bearings to withstand axial loads, radial loads and overturning moments. The inner and outer ring sizes of crossed roller bearings are miniaturized, and the extremely thin form is close to the limit of small size, and has high rigidity, and the accuracy can reach high precision levels. High-precision products are suitable for the joints and rotating parts of industrial robots, rotary tables of machining centers, precision rotary tables, medical equipment, measuring instruments and 1C manufacturing devices.

 

Characteristics of crossed roller bearings:

 

1. Excellent rotation accuracy

The internal structure of the crossed roller bearing adopts rollers arranged vertically and crosswise at 90° to each other. Retainers or isolation blocks are installed between the rollers to prevent the rollers from tilting and reduce the friction between the rollers, effectively preventing the increase of rotation torque. In addition, compared with the use of steel plate retainers, there will be no one-sided contact or locking of the rollers; at the same time, because the inner and outer rings are separated structures, the gap can be adjusted, and high-precision rotation can be obtained even if preload is applied.


2. Simplified operation and installation

The outer ring or inner ring separated into two parts is fixed together after the rollers and retainers are installed, so it is easier and simpler to install.


3. Bear large axial and radial loads

Because the rollers are arranged vertically to each other on the 90°V-groove rolling surface through the spacer retainer, this design allows the cross roller bearing to withstand large axial loads, radial loads, overturning moments and other loads in all directions.


4. Greatly save installation space

The inner and outer ring sizes of the cross roller bearing are minimized, especially the ultra-thin structure is close to the limit of small size, and has high rigidity, so it is suitable for precision workplaces with space requirements.

Common structures of cross roller bearings include: RB type (inner ring as a whole, outer ring separated), RE type (outer ring as a whole, inner ring separated), RU type (inner and outer ring as a whole, with mounting holes), CRB (C, H, ....) type (inner and outer ring as a whole, ultra-thin), SX type (inner ring as a whole, outer ring separated, ultra-thin), etc.
